The Ski Mountain
Serving up 1,500 acres of wide-open terrain and a 2,580 foot vertical rise, June Mountain ski resort provides plenty of room to make your first turns while enjoying stellar views of Gull and June Lakes. After riding up the J1 chair, you’ll see numerous trails hidden from sight in the parking lot. While the nearby larger and more populated Mammoth Mountain overshadows June, its amiable terrain is inviting to new skiers and intermediates. With only 7 lifts and 35 named trails, this ski area is small and charming.
The Mountain Experience
June Mountain is a family mountain. Lifties, instructors and the rest of the staff are enthusiastic and genuinely care about making your experience memorable. The management works hard to earn a reputation as California’s Family Mountain. So much so, that kids 12 and younger ski for free. Very few families leave June without being able to recommend it to others.

June Mountain Ski Terrain
• Beginner: Much of the terrain, including many intermediate trails, is suitable for beginners. If you’re a bit timid about your abilities, follow ski-school instructors down Desperado or River Run for a good start to the day. For a longer run, take chair J6 and wind your way down Silverado and Baby Face.

• Intermediate: Resting slightly lower in elevation than June Mountain summit, Rainbow Mountain delivers solid intermediate terrain. Rosa Mae and Gunsmoke are long, straightaway runs accessed from chairs J4 and J6. Matterhorn is a fun cruiser yielding expansive views of the resort.
• Advanced: June’s advanced terrain accounts for 20 percent of the mountain’s skiable acreage and is located off of the J1 and J7 chairs. Lap the steeps under J1 early on a powder day before taking J7 to the summit. At 10,090 feet, you can size up Dave’s Drop and Powder Chute or traverse down Deer Bowl. For extreme out-of-bounds skiing, book a backcountry tour with Sierra Mountain Guides.

Best Advice
Don’t fret about the sight of a lift line at J1 early in the morning. This double chair is the only chair that will deliver you to the heart of the mountain. So, once you pay your little dues in line for J1, you’ll arrive at June Meadows Chalet where skiers disperse in different directions and lift lines all but disappear.
